31 august 1957 or 16 september 1963?

such a simple question.. isn’t? it is a fact that Malaya achieved her independence from the British on the august 31 1957. no one can deny that.. it is also a fact that Malaysia was established on the september 16 1963. people have been celebrating independence day on the 31st of august all these while.. not including me.

on august 31 1963… Sabah attained self-government. Sabah’s independence day should be on that day but due to some objections, it was delayed to the september 16 1963. on that day itself Sabah was declared as an independent state and together with Sarawak who achieved her independence earlier (july 22 1963), Malaya and Singapore formed the Federation of Malaysia.

so… are we 51 years old or 45 years old? it’s an easy mathematical calculation. i say.. as a malaysian, we are 45 years old. i prefer to say that there is no independence day for Malaysia as Malaysia has never been colonized as a federation. i like to call it Malaysia Day because it was the day we have chosen to be together to establish a nation called Malaysia.

but since that day until now.. no one really care about this significant date. it is always stated that our national day is on the august 31st every year. there’s nothing wrong celebrating it since it was the date Malaya achieved her independence. but remember… Malaya alone.. not Malaysia. so what is the point of admitting ourselves as Malaysian when at the same time we are being hipocrite by not practicing it  ?

the second storm

abdullah badawi is trying his best to be seen calm by the people. he is not a good actor anyway. yong teck lee the former sabah chief minister is the man of the show. 2 MPs agreed  to propose the no-confidence motion in the parliment.

anwar ibrahim is very conficent that he will be the prime minister by 16 september 2008. the date was chosen for its significance as it is the day when malaysia was established 45 years ago. for the sabahans, especially those who are longing for changes and justice would be joyful to hear this.

anyway…. let us wait and see what is going to happen. it’s either win or lose. there’s no such things as draw.

the people have spoken

9 march 2008 is a day to be remembered. the people have spoken. 4 states pulau pinang, perak, kedah and selangor captured by the opposition. they also won 10 out of 11 seats in the federal territory or kuala lumpur. the PAS managed to retain kelantan with bigger majority.   congratulation to all the people who are longing for changes.

i lost one of my best friend

one very close friend told me a news. a news that i never expect to hear. something that i just dont want to hear. but since my ear is still hearing, i have to listen.. and since my mind is still sane..  i have to accept

i have lost one of my best friend…someone that i used to share my meals and drinks with…someone that will bite me when he feels angry to someone.. and i will always allow him. someone that always compete me during the sports day… someone that will do this and that to me… and i accept his doings..

he died on the christmas day. he left when i was having a good time with my family. although we have not been in touch for 9 years…. yes.. he is still my best friend…and that will never change…
